File-level Access Rules for Avid Media and Projects

Facilis has the choice between volume (workspace)-level permissions just like Nexis, and file-level access control that works perfectly with Media Composer. Facilis Smart Access Rules can protect Avid bins and projects, MXF files and linked media from accidental deletion, while maintaining write access within the project. It’s like ACLs for post workflows.

Question: Can I have the Avid bin and project sharing without Nexis?
Answer: It’s not Nexis that gives you the project sharing feature, it’s Media Composer.

Project and Media Sharing

Media Composer Project and Media Sharing is enabled by Nexis or 3^rd party shared storage that emulates Nexis at the OS level. So, capture, import, render to the Facilis volumes as if they were native Avid storage. Manage databases accurately with hostname directories, the way Media Composer was designed to work. Open the same project across different workstations and OS platforms, and use bin locking to secure project data.

 Question: Isn’t Avid storage the most optimized for use with Media Composer?
Answer: Facilis HUB is a higher performance solution in every way.

Performance

Facilis HUB offers connection links up to 50Gb Ethernet and up to 64Gb Fibre Channel. An HP Z8 Media Composer workstation on Fibre Channel can play three streams of 4K DNxHR HQX at 60P. On the best Nexis connection, only one stream is qualified. The Facilis HUB FLASHPoint 48S is capable of 12GB/sec of aggregate throughput, doubling the best bandwidth of most competitive solutions including Avid.
