Set in the bustling Fitzrovia district of London, Silk Factory is an award-winning creative agency that produces some of the finest feature film trailer campaigns for cinema, television, and social media. Silk Factory also produces high-end motion graphics, virtual and augmented reality content. With locations in London, New York and Los Angeles, the directors and founders John Piedot and Andrew Snook have their hands full managing people and content. When the opportunity arose to spin-up their new Los Angeles location in 2023, they chose the solution that has been powering their creative process at Silk Factory since 2017, and other London Facilities they managed since 2006.

The Silk Factory London location houses fifteen Avid workstations and five systems dedicated to motion graphics work. There are about 30 people working on-prem and remote in the London and Los Angeles locations. The Los Angeles location editors are all remote and access the server through screen sharing.

“The Los Angeles server is housed in a data center and the editors remote into the client workstations from home,” explains Owen, “This way the data needed in Los Angeles can be transferred to that server and the editors there can have it ready to work in a short time.”
Silk Factory London has doubled in size over the past several years, all while relying on the same Facilis server infrastructure they first deployed in 2017. “We’ve found the flexibility and the speed of the Facilis system to be great, along with seamless cross-platform compatibility, and minimal ongoing running costs.” Comments Ed Hick, Head of Online and IO at Silk factory, “We’ll keep investing in solutions that make it easy for us to create content and give us the opportunity to grow without major upheaval and cost when it’s time to upgrade.”
